Bottle Feeding the Baby Calves
Calves are generally bottle feed milk twice daily. The milk is diverted into pails from the robotic Lely Astronaut A4 milker. The cow milk is then transferred into nipple bottles and hand feed to the holstein calves. Whole and waste milk is rich with needed nutrients for a healthy calf. Overfeeding milk can cause digestive upsets and scouring as it also decreases consumption of dry feed or grain, thus prolonging weaning time. Feeding the calves is adorable but is an important part of the calves early lives and good herd management.

“God said, ‘I need somebody willing to get up before dawn, milk cows, work all day in the fields, milk cows again, eat supper, then go to town and stay past midnight at a meeting of the school board…’ so God made a farmer.”
Paul Harvey
